How to read hail reports
Hail is measured by its diameter and compared to everyday objects.
- 1Start with your max hail
The largest hail your report found at this address, in inches.
- 2Find it on the scale
We jump to the closest size and compare it to an everyday object.
- 3Check the damage level
The label shows how likely damage is. 1.00″ (quarter size) is the NWS severe-hail threshold.
Actual damage also depends on hail hardness, wind, impact angle, and your roof’s age and condition.
