A fast moving squall line preceding a strong Arctic cold front produced strong to severe thunderstorms with wind gusts to 40 to 60 mph. Some locations experienced gusts in excess of 60 or 70 mph. Up to 87,000 electric customers lost power statewide as numerous trees and tree limbs fell and brought down power lines.

Some locations experienced gusts in excess of 60 mph. The National Weather Service at T.F. Green Airport in West Warwick recorded a peak wind gusts to 58 mph. Numerous trees were reported blown down in Scituate, Cumberland, and Lincoln. Trees also were reported knocked down in Warwick and West Greenwich. In Richmond, which is in Washington County, a 20 x 100 foot section of roof was blown off of the state police barracks. In Newport County, in both Middletown and Tiverton, power lines were reported knocked down.
