Two brief tornadoes occurred over open pasture land causing no damage. The first tornado was reported 5 miles southwest of Burkburnett in Wichita County, and the second was 3 miles west of Burkburnett. The second tornado touched down 6 minutes after the first began, and both tornados lifted at the same time. No damage was reported, and both were rated as F0. Significant damage occurred in Vernon with straight-line winds along a strong gust front. Numerous fences and trees as large as 4-feet in diameter and fences were downed (3 fell onto houses), 8 homes received major roof damage, and 4 storage buildings were destroyed. In addition, 2 businesses were damaged: parts of the roof were blown off a boot store, and a second store received major air conditioner and roof damage. Other reports included nickel sized hail in Vernon in Wilbarger County and water covering Highway 183 north of Vernon in Wilbarger County.

The first storms (west of the Pecos River) were in cells, where some tornadoes were reported. As the organized convection moved eastward a line of severe thunderstorms formed. Strong downbursting winds and winds from bow echoes caused scattered damage up and down the line of storms. The farther the storms progressed eastward hail reports decreased but more strong winds and wind damage reports were received.

Tornado Report Description: Severe thunderstorms moved across extreme eastern Oklahoma during the late morning of May 26th. A tornado touched down briefly 1.5 miles southwest of Colcord at 1115CST. This F0 tornado downed trees and power lines and damaged outbuildings. One house was also "rolled over" by the tornado. Strong straight-line winds downed trees and power lines and destroyed small outbuildings one mile southwest of Colcord, and trees were blown down one-half mile southwest of Colcord. Thunderstorm winds gusted to 60 miles an hour in Sallisaw, and 12 to 15 trees were uprooted by strong winds five miles west of Spiro. Dime-size hail fell at the Tenkiller Dam eight miles northwest of Vian and also at Spiro.
