Hail Report Description: A moist and very unstable air mass was in place across Iowa. Lifted indices were in the -12° C. range by the early afternoon hours. Surface temperatures reached the middle to upper 80s with dew point readings in the lower to middle 70s. CAPE values over northern Iowa were around 3000 J-kg-1. Convection fired up during the late morning and early afternoon hours and left a weak outflow boundary over northern Iowa. During the early afternoon hours, convection fired over northwest Iowa. When this convection reached the old outflow boundary, one cell became severe at the intersection. In spite of weak inflow winds, generally 10 kts or less, the storm quickly grew and produced golf ball to baseball-size hail over Palo Alto County. WSR-88D VIL values reached 76 Kg-m-2 with this cell. Other storm fired in the areas, but did not become severe. The severe storm propagated south along its own outflow boundary. During this time the storm dropped copious amounts of hail. A report was received just north of Rush Lake, in Palo Alto County, of pea-size hail covering the ground to a depth of 12 inches in places. In spite of the small size of the hail, crop damage was severe with much of the crop shredded by hail. The new cell moved into northern Pocahontas County where it dropped softball-size hail. Damage was reported by these large hailstones to roofs and cars. Crop damage was also extensive. A short time later, another cell formed along the southern edge of the convective complex. It became severe and dropped only dime to quarter-size hail in spite of its VIL of 73 Kg-m-2. Following these events, the complex became too multicellular to sustain severe weather and only produced pea to marble-size hail and very heavy rains.

Wind Report Description: Severe thunderstorms moving across eastern Connecticut caused a variety of weather problems. A few homes sustained considerable damage after being struck by lightning. A couple of men were lucky to be alive after being struck by lightning. Golf ball-size hail was reported in New London, but apparently did little, if any, damage. In Windham County numerous large trees were reported down in Plainfield. More than 9,000 electric customers lost power statewide.

Wind Report Description: Severe thunderstorms moved across parts of Rhode Island bringing gusty winds and small to dime-size hail as well as briefly heavy rain. Trees were reported blown down in Burrillville, North Smithfield, Providence, Barrington, Warwick, and Hopkinton. Numerous trees were reported down near Ashaway in Hopkinton, and five roads were blocked. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph were reported in Newport, and a funnel cloud was observed over the coastal waters near Galilee. Almost an inch of rain fell in 15 minutes in Johnston. Lightning struck a fraternity house at the University of Rhode Island in Providence, resulting in a three-alarm fire. Up to 21,000 electric customers lost power statewide.

Tornado Report Description: A tornado briefly touched down twice just southeast of the downtown Colorado Springs, first near the intersection of Hancock and Las Animas and then at the Fountain View Apartments, at the intersection of Hutchinson Drive and Fountain Blvd. Several windows were shattered in the apartment complex, and a 30-foot maple tree was toppled, cutting power lines to the apartment complex and damaging a nearby automobile.

Tornado Report Description: North of Elk Rapids, a cold air waterspout came ashore with enough force to break some six inch limbs out of some trees, and create the classic "Freight Train" sound heard by at least four people in nearby houses. Some minor roof damage was also noted on one house. The tree damage was between two houses and the track was less than .1 mile long. The waterspout dissipated quickly after coming on shore. No convective activity was observed, by any radar, in northern lower Michigan during that night.
