Tornado Report Description: This survey was performed by a student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. A very brief tornado touched down just west of Griffith Road near Tanner. Damage occurred to three residences. At one residence, a 18 by 20 foot shed was destroyed and a few shingles were peeled off the east-facing side of the roof. The two houses across the street sustained minor roof damage (at the time of the survey, one house had already been repaired). A few snapped limbs and branches were noted from trees behind these homes. The tornado crossed Stewart Road where another house sustained minor roof damage and a porch pillar was pushed over. The tornado briefly reached maximum intensity along Winfred Drive where three residences were affected. Two of the residences sustained minor roof damage in the form of shingles and the soffit and fascia being pulled off. The third residence featured significant removal of shingles as well as a destruction of a large well-constructed 30 by 45 foot shed. The tornado dissipated after crossing Winfred Drive, with no additional damage noted along U.S. Highway 31.

Tornado Report Description: A short-lived tornado initially touched down along Roy Long Road just west of Highway 31. Several trees were snapped and uprooted around a residential property. The residence itself sustained minor damage as narrow wooden front porch pillars were broken and shifted by the wind. Based upon this damage, the maximum winds were determined to be around 75 mph, which is a mid range EF-0 tornado. ||The tornado skipped northeast with additional damage along Highway 72, just west of Highway 31. Multiple signs atop a large metal pole were blown out and a portion of the metal siding was ripped off. The tornado weakened after this point, and lifted just northeast of the damaged location.

Tornado Report Description: A tornado developed near the Athens Country Club and Golf Course along Hatfield Lake Road off U.S. Highway 31. Several trees were snapped and uprooted along a path that crossed Interstate 65 and Strain Road. The tornado then tracked across Lindsay lane about one mile south of U.S. Highway 72. In the Canebrake neighborhood, numerous homes sustained significant roof loss with garage doors blown out and some exterior wall damage. Minor structural damage also occurred in the Indian Trace Community off Woodland Road. The tornado then crossed U.S. Highway 72 near Piney Creek and continued to track northeast. At Mooresville Road and Pepper Road, numerous homes sustained significant damage, including major roof loss. A brick garage was collapsed and numerous trees were snapped and uprooted. As the tornado continued tracking northeast across McCulley Mill Road, additional homes were damage, again sustaining major roof to homes occurred along Nick Davis Road near East Limestone Road. Damage continued to homes along Eagle Point Drive and Freedom Drive where a home lost its roof completely an other homes received major roof loss, broken windows ad collapsed garages. The tornado then crossed into Madison County. This tornado obtained EF-2 status producing peak wind speeds of 125 mph.

Tornado Report Description: A short-lived tornado with peak winds of 80 mph developed along a squall line of severe thunderstorms. The tornado initially touched down just north of the Davis/Snake Road intersection where several large trees were uprooted and snapped, one which fell on the corner of a single-story house. The tornado skipped northeast and snapped and uprooted additional trees around a residence between Fielding Road / County Road 15 and Davis Road. The tornado lifted near the intersection of Fielding Road / County Road 15 and Stanford Road with a just a few trees snapped halfway down, along with an awning pulled off a small shed.

Tornado Report Description: The violent tornado continued it's path from the Tennessee River along the Lawrence/Limestone county line northeast through Tanner and into the east Central portion of Limestone County. Homes were completely obliterated along a wide swath in the Tanner community. Nearly a dozen high tension power lines were snapped or taken to the ground in Limestone County. Concrete power poles were also snapped off at their base. A subsequent ground team, aided by a storm survey expert from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, surveyed the most intense damage in Limestone County. High end EF-3 damage was noted over a large area in eastern Limestone County along and north of the East Limestone High School. The intensity was maximized in Limestone County in the community of Tanner, with a large swath of EF-4 damage and a narrow corridor of high end EF-4 damage. Several well-constructed homes with anchor bolting were completely wiped clean. One home had the debris lofted over 300 hundred yards with large items carried completely away. Intense ground scarring was noted in this area. In addition, a large cargo container was picked up and blown approximately 600 yards and several cars were carried airborne for hundreds of yards. In all, hundreds of homes received moderate to major damage along the path with many of these being total losses.
