The hail fell across the southern areas of Tuscaloosa, Fosters, Ralph, Taylorville, and Duncanville. In the city of Tuscaloosa, one business, 22 apartment buildings, and 122 homes were damaged from the large hail. Across the southern parts of the county, numerous trees and power lines were blown down and many areas were temporarily without power. No injuries were reported.

Tornado Report Description: National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed damage in Tuscaloosa County and confirmed a weak tornado. The tornado entered Tuscaloosa County from Greene County about one-quarter of a mile south of Homestead Road. Two homes suffered roof damage and several outbuildings were damaged or destroyed. The tornado lifted just north of Romulus Road.

Tornado Report Description: A tornado touched down near the intersection of Fosters Loop Road and Cypress Creek Road, where it snapped and uprooted hundreds of trees. It moved northeastward, crossing the Black Warrior River near Maxwell Bend. Several homes sustained significant roof and porch damage on the east bank of the river in the River Point Subdivision. It continued moving northeast, snapping and uprooting hundreds of trees and causing mainly minor shingle and roof damage to numerous homes as it moved through several subdivisions. As the tornado continued north and eastward, the tornado crossed Old Greensboro Road where it uprooted and snapped the trunks of numerous large, old hardwoods at the Little Sandy Baptist Church. The tornado continued northeast across Highway 69 with winds of 95 mph, where it downed multiple trees on the east side of the highway. The tornado took a more easterly track and produced sporadic tree damage until it reached the Taylorwood Estates subdivision and the Bear Creek trailer park. In this area, the tornado snapped or uprooted hundreds of trees. The tornado then moved east-northeast and caused sporadic tree damage as it crossed U.S. Highway 82 and Hargrove Road. Just west of Hargrove Road, the tornado uprooted and snapped numerous hardwood and softwood trees and caused major damage to 25 mobile homes as trees fell on the homes. One small porch was ripped from a double wide mobile home. The tornado then moved through the Woodland Forest subdivision where it uprooted and snapped hundreds of trees. As the tornado approached Buttermilk Road, southerly winds got under the soffit of a single family home and ripped out a small portion of the roof. The tornado caused minor roof damage and uprooted several trees on the east side Buttermilk Road before it finally lifted. This tornado was very close to the path of the F4 tornado in 2000.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado initially touched down in rural northern Greene County and moved northeast through southern Tuscaloosa and western Jefferson Counties, causing devastating damage consistent with a violent EF4 rating to portions of the city of Tuscaloosa and western suburbs of Birmingham, before it lifted northeast of downtown Birmingham. The tornado entered Tuscaloosa County just north of CR 60, west northwest of Ralph, and moved northeast causing tree damage and minor structural damage consistent with an EF2 rating and winds of 125 mph. The tornado strengthened as it crossed the Black Warrior River, north of Interstate 20 and approached Tuscaloosa. As the tornado approached Interstate 359, several buildings were destroyed including the Tuscaloosa County Emergency Operations Center. The tornado strengthened further to a violent EF4 with winds of 190 mph. Along 15th St E. and McFarland Blvd E., several small restaurants and stores were destroyed, with only a wall or two still standing. The tornado devastated the Cedar Crest neighborhood just north of 15th St, leveling many cinder block homes and causing at least 3 fatalities. The tornado crossed McFarland Blvd, destroying additional stores and restaurants. The tornado crossed University Blvd in the Alberta City community. Alberta Elementary School suffered nearly complete destruction, with only a few portions of walls still standing. A nearby two story apartment building was reduced to rubble sitting on the foundation. The Alberta Park Shopping Center was completely destroyed with no walls standing and a pile of debris on the foundation. Cinder block construction homes in the surrounding neighborhood were completely destroyed, and in a few cases debris was swept away from the site. The tornado continued northeast and struck the Chastain Manor Apartments at the north end of 34th Ave E. Buildings on the east side of this new 2 story apartment complex were completely destroyed, with only a pile of debris remaining and a few walls set into the hillside. A small club house that was anchored to a foundation, but with apparently no interior walls, was completely destroyed and swept from its foundation. Similar devastation to homes and businesses was noted along both sides of CR 45 near 1st St E. and locations to the northeastward. East of Holt, the tornado path width widened from 0.5 mile to around 1 mile. The tornado crossed Holt Peterson Rd just northwest of Clinker Rd, where two homes were completely destroyed. One home on a foundation was swept clean, with only floor joists remaining attached to the foundation. Almost all trees were blown down or snapped in the vicinity, as well as in the bottom of a narrow ravine nearly 100 feet below the house. The tornado continued to Holt Lock and Dam Road near its intersection with Recreation Area Road. Numerous mobile homes and several cinder block homes were destroyed in this area, which resulted in several fatalities. The tornado struck a marina on Holt Lake at the end of Recreation Area Road where it caused significant damage to a restaurant as well as numerous boats. Several injuries were noted in this area. The tornado continued northeastward and weakened to an EF3 rating with winds of 130 mph. As its path narrowed to 0.5 mile, the tornado passed north of Brookwood, near the intersection of Hannah Creek Rd and CR 59. Several mobile homes were destroyed, cinder block homes received heavy damage, and significant tree damage was noted in this area. The tornado moved parallel to Hannah Creek Rd where it caused extensive tree damage and destroyed at least one mobile home. The tornado crossed CR 99 and moved into western Jefferson County, 4 miles north of Abernant. A person died (indirect) several weeks after the event as a result of contracting pneumonia from exposure to the elements after his home was destroyed. An additional 6 people died (indirect) in the months following the tornado from the stress of the event, not direct injury.||This tornado was produced by a supercell thunderstorm that began in Newton County Mississippi at 13:54 pm CST, finally dissipating in Macon County, North Carolina at approximately 21:18 pm CST. This supercell spawned several strong to violent tornadoes along its long path.

Tornado Report Description: The second segment of this long track tornado crossed into Tuscaloosa County south of Pleasant Ridge Church Rd. This tornado began in Pickens County, 5 miles northeast of Pickensville, and tracked northeastward into Tuscaloosa County. It continued through portions of Fayette, Walker, Cullman (See Storm Data for Huntsville), and Blount Counties, before it dissipated in Marshall (See Storm Data for Huntsville) County. While the average path width of this tornado in this portion of Tuscaloosa County was around 0.5 mile (880 yds), the maximum path width maximum was 0.8 mile (1408 yds), which occurred along AL Hwy 171. The tornado strengthened as it entered west Tuscaloosa County to an EF3 rating with winds of 140 mph. It produced significant tree damage along AL Hwy 171. Trees were debarked with only bare large limbs left. Other trees at this location were snapped. The tornado moved northeast weakening to an EF0 rating, but continued to produce tree damage across northwest Tuscaloosa County. The tornado moved into southeast Fayette county 0.5 mile east of Fayette Rd.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado developed along a Quasi-Linear Convective System in far eastern Pickens County, 5.5 miles south southeast of Gordo and moved northeastward for 3.46 miles where it crossed into Tuscaloosa County just to the west of Holman, south of AL Hwy 140. This tornado continued for almost 19 miles in Tuscaloosa County before dissipating 2.5 miles east northeast of Samantha. As the tornado entered Tuscaloosa County and crossed US Hwy 82, its path widened to near 400 yds and it strengthened to an EF2 where it uprooted numerous trees. Northeast of Holman, the tornado strengthened to an EF3 with winds of 140 mph and caused significant damage to a home. It removed the roof and tossed it at least 200 yds. A 3500 pound trailer was thrown about 100 yds. The tornado continued northeast where it crossed AL Hwy 171 and US Hwy 43. Thousands of trees were snapped or uprooted and many homes sustained damage due to the fallen trees. In addition, at least 3 outbuildings sustained damage or were destroyed. The tornado tracked south of Samantha and dissipated along North Hagler Rd.

Tornado Report Description: The second segment of this tornado crossed into Tuscaloosa County, approximately one half mile west of Lock 9 Road. The tornado touched down in Greene County, 3 miles southeast of Ralph. The tornado strengthened to an EF-3 rating, with maximum winds of 140 mph. Hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted and a power transmission tower was severely damaged. As the tornado moved northeast into Taylorville, several homes and businesses received structural damage. The tornado lifted near Mayfair Drive, south of Veterans Memorial Parkway. The damage path in Tuscaloosa County had a maximum width of 500 yards.

Tornado Report Description: The tornado touched down along CR-21 on the western side of Lake Arnedra, crossed the lake, and then lifted on the eastern shore. Two large hardwood trees were blown down onto houses causing major damage to one of the homes and making it uninhabitable. Another hardwood was toppled on the western shore of the lake.

Tornado Report Description: The tornado that previously touched down in eastern Pickens County moved into extreme western Tuscaloosa County, just north of Barefoot Springer Road. The tornado was on the ground for less than a minute in Tuscaloosa County, producing only minor tree damage.

Tornado Report Description: A brief and weak tornado touched down right in Lake Lurleen at approximately 614 PM CDT. The short lived tornado was visible to many people and was captured on camera as it pulled water up and out of the lake. The tornado quickly dissipated a few yards into the rural countryside. This tornado developed from the same parent thunderstorm that produced tornado three in Buhl. The tornado damage path was 0.10 miles long and was 25 yards wide at its widest point. Tornado Report Description: The third tornado to affect the Buhl community in one afternoon touched down at approximately 559 PM CDT. The tornado started just east of Sipsey Valley Road and moved due north. The tornado damaged several homes near Sipsey Valley Road and Sipsey Lane. The tornado moved over rural countryside and then entered Buhl. The Volunteer Fire Department and several other buildings sustained minor roof damage. The tornado then turned to the left and crossed County Road 140 and US Highway 82. The tornado moved along the Sipsey River north of US 82 and lifted around 606 PM CDT. Numerous trees and several power lines were snapped off or were uprooted along the path. This tornado was occurred from the same parent thunderstorm that produced the tornado down the street on Sipsey Valley Road. Tornado Report Description: A tornado touched down at approximately 552 PM CDT along Sipsey Valley Road between Buhl and Romulus. The tornado damaged three homes and snapped off several trees near Sipsey Valley Road. The tornado lifted in the rural countryside east of Sipsey Valley Road around 553 PM CDT. The tornado touched down east of State Highway 171 near Rue Road at approximately 424 PM CDT. The tornado tracked northeast and crossed US Highway 43 before it lifted along the banks of Lake Tuscaloosa around 431 PM CDT. The tornado produced light tree damage along its path and one home suffered minor damage. The tornado damage path was 5 miles long and 60 yards wide at its widest point. Tornado Report Description: National Weather Service meteorologists performed extensive aerial and ground surveys across northern Tuscaloosa County. It has been determined that a tornado produced damage along a large stretch of the Sipsey River Basin. The tornado touched down at approximately 355 PM CDT near County Road 140 just east of Elrod. The tornado traveled northeast along the Sipsey River, crossed County Road 21, crossed State Highway 171, and lifted just east of County Road 35 around 417 PM CDT. A large majority of the damage was minor and limited to tree damage. Numerous trees were snapped off or uprooted along the Sipsey River. The tornado has been rated an F1 on the Fujita scale. The tornado damage path was 13.8 miles long and 100 yards wide at its widest point. This was the same thunderstorm cell that produced the brief tornado touchdown in rural southeastern Pickens County. Tornado Report Description: National Weather Service meteorologists performed aerial and ground surveys across northwest Tuscaloosa County. The damage that occurred along Robertson Road was determined to be a tornado. The tornado touched down west of Cooper Road and Robertson Road near Dunn Creek at approximately 255 PM CDT. The tornado traveled just east of north and crossed Robertson Road. At least two homes suffered roof damage and several out-buildings and barns were damaged. Several trees were snapped off or blown down along the path. The tornado lifted around 257 PM CDT along the Right Hand Fork. The tornado has been rated an F0 on the Fujita scale. Tornado Report Description: The tornado began in southwestern Tuscaloosa County on the west side of the Black Warrior River. Traveling in a northeasterly direction the tornado moved from a rural, unpopulated area of the Black Warrior River into an area of homes south of Shelton State Community College. The tornado crossed SR 69 destroying a nearly complete shopping center which included a Winn Dixie store. East of SR 69 the tornado destroyed a number of houses and residential structures. As the tornado reached US 82 it destroyed a number of mobile homes where several deaths were reported. From US 82 the tornado continued northeasterly downing numerous trees and power lines and damaging residential structures. The tornado crossed I-20/59 just west of exit 77 where many trees were uprooted or snapped off. Minor damage occurred to the JVC manufacturing facility. At exit 77 a number of commercial structures including hotels, fast food restaurants, and truck stops sustained damage including a number of vehicles that were overturned. The tornado continued northeasterly for a couple of miles before dissipating rapidly. Ironically, the tornado dissipated as it moved into an open, unpopulated area. The tornado was spawned by a supercell thunderstorm that originated in Mississippi. This thunderstorm was responsible for additional tornado damage in St. Clair and Etowah counties.Tuscaloosa EMA reported 11 fatalities with this tornado along with 144 injuries. Nine of the fatalities occurred in mobile homes, one in a vehicle, and one in a commercial building converted to residential use. Six of those killed were females and five were males. Ages ranged from 16 months to 83 years old. There were 251 single family dwellings affected (43 destroyed, 76 with major damage, 138 with minor damage), 179 mobile homes affected (79 destroyed, 23 with major damage, 77 with minor damage), and 13 businesses affected (1 destroyed, 7 with major damage, 5 with minor damage).The tornado was on the ground for a total of 18 miles, all within Tuscaloosa County. The tornado path was estimated to be 750 yards wide at it's maximum intensity. This tornado was rated an F4 on the Fujita Scale for tornado intensity. Tornado intensity varied along the path with considerable F2 and F3 damage in the area from just west of SR 69 to US 82 in the Hinton Place and Hillcrest Meadows areas as well as the Bear Creek area. It was also in these areas where pockets of F4 destruction occurred. The tornado first touched down at 12:54 PM and dissipated at 1:12 PM with a forward speed of approximately 60 MPH.
