Tornado Report Description: National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has concluded that a tornado struck Saint Marys County. ||The tornado entered just south of Maddox Maryland around the South View Lane and Notley Hall Road. The tornado moved northeast through rural farmland and forested areas before moving between Chaptico and Clements. The tornado crossed the intersection of Route 238 and Horseshoe Road before continuing northeast through rural areas. The tornado then passed through Morganza and Loveville, passing over the property of Chopticon High School. The last significant damage was along Route 235 between North and South Sandgates Roads, near Oakville Maryland. ||The majority of damage along the path was substantial tree damage, and damage to several homes from falling trees. There were several barns and outbuildings flattened, and some minor siding and shingle damage was noted on some homes. Chopticon High School had damage to bleachers and sporting fields. ||The damage coincided with a tornadic signature on National Weather Service and FAA Doppler Radars.

Tornado Report Description: The National Weather Service received approximately 15 damage reports associated with a thunderstorm that moved across St. Marys and Calvert Counties in Southern Maryland early Friday afternoon. When plotted on a map...these damage reports were linear in nature and corroborated with radar rotational signals from the FAA terminal doppler weather radar at Andrews AFB. The predominant damage reported were trees down which provides an estimate of maximum wind speeds of 60 to 80 mph.

Tornado Report Description: Peak winds are estimated to have been 70 mph and the tornado was on the ground for three minutes. The tornado uprooted two oak trees that were one to two feet in diameter and snapped several others at their bases. It blew the roof off of a farm outbuilding and caused additional damage to the wooden planks. Several pine trees had their limbs ripped off. Four to six inch diameter tree limbs were blown onto portions of Cage Farm Road. Grassy fields surrounding the area indicate the tornado may have lifted and descended along its path.

Many large trees were uprooted in this area.

Tornado Report Description: A ground survey conducted by the NWS...together with radar data from Andrews AFB Terminal Doppler Weather Radar determined there was a brief EF-0 tornado touchdown in Coltons Point Maryland. Minor tree damage and roof damage was noted in the vicinity of the intersection of Colton Point Road...Rt 242 with Bayview Road and along Beach Road between Charles Hall Road and Point Breeze Road. A few shingles were blown off some structures in this area. A tree came down on wires in the 38300 block of Beach Road. A trampoline near a residence on Colton Point Road next to the town post office was lifted up and became lodged 90 feet up in a nearby tall pine tree. Two large wooden play set were blown...one was dragged about 15 feet. This tornado was likely the extension of a waterspout that crossed the Potomac River just before 9 pm.
