Tornado Report Description: This tornado began along Bill McQueen Rd in eastern Covington Co and moved northeastward across Bob Boler Rd... Graham Aultman Rd... Monroe Rd... and crossed into northwestern Jones Co near the time it crossed the Leaf River. It lifted around the time it crossed US 84 in the Hebron community and was observed by storm chasers around this time. Peak intensity was as it approached and crossed Monroe Road and as it entered Jones County in the Leaf River bottom. Minor structure damage was noted along Monroe Road but overall... this tornado damaged a lot of timber with a few thousand trees damaged in the form of snapped or uprooted along the path. Total path length in Covington and Jones County was 6.8 miles. The maximum wind speed was 105 mph. The maximum width was 580 yards.

Tornado Report Description: *** 11 INJ *** This strong tornado touched down west of Hopewell near Roscoe McDaniel Road where it damaged trees before it moved northeast and damaged the roof of a home and destroyed a barn on Cole Road. The tornado then moved along Jones Chapel Road where numerous mobile homes were destroyed. A wood frame home atop CMU block was pushed off this foundation. The tornado continued northeast to the west of Hot Coffee and crossed highway 532. Numerous additional mobile homes were completely destroyed including one thrown into a ravine. Notably... of all the mobile homes destroyed... no vehicles in the driveways were thrown nor shifted more than a few inches across the ground. As it continued northeast... the tornado crossed mostly rural portions of the county before it impacted a home on Gilmer Road where the roof of a brick home was removed. IT CONTINUED EASTWARD FROM THERE THROUGH FIELDS AND LOW CREEK AREAS BEFORE CROSSING WILLIAM WARREN ROAD. IT THEN FOLLOWED ALONG HAMBONE ROAD AND CAGLE ROAD BEFORE CROSSING SALEM SCHOOL ROAD WHERE ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT ROOF DAMAGE OCCURRED. IT EVENTUALLY CROSSED HIGHWAY 84 AND FINALLY DISSIPATED AS IT REACHED HEBRON CENTERVILLE ROAD. THROUGHOUT THE PATH... IT UPROOTED AND SNAPPED NUMEROUS HARDWOOD AND SOFTWOOD TREES. MAX WIND 110 MPH...
