Wind Report Description: This swath of significant straight line winds started near the Leaf River and moved generally ESE. Heaviest damage was along Highway 11 and then again along Leeville near the intersections of Miller and Deermont. Numerous trees were uprooted... snapped or had large sections broken out of them. Several powerlines were downed as well. A few homes had shingle damage or roof damage from large limbs along with some fences damaged. One shed had the roof blown off. The tree fall pattern was to the SE. Peak winds in this swath are estimated between 80-90 mph. Swath length was almost 3 miles and about a mile wide. Event time was roughly 438am to 444am.

Wind Report Description: This swath of wind started on the south side of Petal near Boxtel Street and Crabapple Drive and moved SSE across Carterville Road into the Carterville community. Initially a shed had the roof torn off and many large limbs broken in trees. Tree damage increased quickly between Corinth Road and Carterville Road. Numerous trees were uprooted or had large limbs snapped along Carterville Road as well as Harvey Ave... Jones St and Azalea Ave. Three homes had shingle pealed off and one had a large section of siding removed. Power lines were down as well. The tree fall pattern was to the south and SSE. Peak winds were between 65-80 mph. Swath length was roughly a mile long... width 1/3rd of a mile. Event time was 435 am to 438 am.

A ROOF WAS TAKEN OFF OF A HAY BARN AND DAMAGE WAS FOUND ON THE SIDE OF A BARN. THIS TORNADIC STORM CONTINUED TO TRACK NORTHEASTWARD TOWARDS HIGHWAY 13... WHERE SEVERAL MORE TREES WERE UPROOTED. THIS TORNADO CONTINUED TO MOVE NORTHEAST TOWARDS OLD HIGHWAY 13 UPROOTING SEVERAL MORE TREES ALONG THE WAY. THIS TORNADO CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MORE MILES... WHERE IT CONTINUED ITS NORTHEAST TRACK CROSSING OVER PETE THOMPSON ROAD UPROOTING SEVERAL MORE TREES UNTIL IT FINALLY DISSIPATED.

Tornado Report Description: THIS EF2 TORNADO DEVELOPED ALONG POP RUNNELS RD AND MOVED NORTHEAST NEAR THE MACEDONIA COMMUNITY. IT SNAPPED AND UPROOTED NUMEROUS TREES ALONG ITS PATH... CROSSING JOHN ODOM RD... COFFEY LN... CEDAR GROVE RD... WALTERS RD... AND MACEDONIA RD... BEFORE LIFTING NEAR PLEASANT TRAIL. THE ROOF WAS TAKEN OFF OF A SMALL BUILDING ALONG JOHN ODOM RD... AND A TREE FELL ON A MOBILE HOME ALONG MACEDONIA RD. THE MOST PROLIFIC TREE DAMAGE ALONG THE PATH OCCURRED ALONG WALTERS RD.

Tornado Report Description: DRONE IMAGERY COURTESY OF FORREST COUNTY EMA PLACED THE START OF THIS TORNADO IN A WOODED AREA SOUTHWEST OF HIGHWAY 13 AND US HIGHWAY 49 WHERE SEVERAL SOFTWOOD TREES WERE UPROOTED. THE TORNADO QUICKLY REACHED PEAK INTENSITY OF 115MPH (EF-2) AS IT EMERGED FROM THE WOODS AND PASSED THROUGH TWO STANDS OF PINE TREES AT A BLUEBERRY FARM. DRONE IMAGERY SHOWED EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE IN BOTH STANDS OF PINE WITH NUMEROUS TREES SNAPPED... ESPECIALLY NEAR THE CENTER OF THE TORNADO WHERE NEARLY EVERY TREE WAS DOWNED. THE TORNADO MAINTAINED HIGH END EF-1 INTENSITY AND SNAPPED NUMEROUS PINE TREES AS IT CROSSED HIGHWAY 13. THE TORNADO THEN MOVED PARALLEL TO COZY CORNER ROAD WHERE ADDITIONAL TREES WERE DOWNED AND SEVERAL HOMES SUSTAINED ROOF DAMAGE. AN RV TRAILER WAS ALSO ROLLED AND SEVERAL OUTBUILDINGS SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. Tornado Report Description: EXTENSIVE DAMAGE ALL ACROSS SOUTH HATTIESBURG FROM I-59 ACROSS HWY 49 AND INTO PETAL. MANY STRUCTURES HEAVYLY DAMAGED... A FIRE DEPT HAD A DIRECT HIT ALONG WITH WILLIAM CARY UNIVERSITY HIT AS WELL. MULTIPLE INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED ACROSS THE AREA.

Tornado Report Description: TORNADO BEGAN NEAR ENTREKIN ROAD AND ENDED NEAR HIGHWAY 13 SNAPPING A FEW TREES AND A POWER POLE ALONG THE WAY. MAX WINDS OF 75 MPH. PATH LENGTH OF 3.9 MILES AND MAX WIDTH OF 75 YARDS.

Tornado Report Description: This weak tornado touched down along Richburg Road just west of I-59. It tracked east northeast for 4.5 miles across a neighborhood and US Highway 11 before lifting at McCall Street and Barkley Road. The damage was mainly to trees where many of these had broken limbs with several even uprooted. Some homes had minor damage from downed trees or shingles torn off the roof. Estimated maximum winds were 85 mph.

Tornado Report Description: The tornado started along Highway 589, where some limbs and small trees were blown down. It became intense rather quickly, producing significant damage as it moved through the West Lake Serene area. The tornado reached its maximum intensity in the area around and just southwest of Oak Grove High School where maximum winds were estimated at 170 mph, which is EF-4 strength. There was a brick home in a subdivision southwest of the high school, just west of old Highway 11, that was completely leveled with all interior and exterior walls down, and a fair amount of large debris was blown downstream. Additionally, very high end timber damage occurred in this location with a number of trees showing debarking and denuding. Several other homes in this subdivision also sustained EF-2 to EF-3 damage. As the tornado crossed old Highway 11, it produced extensive damage on the campus of Oak Grove High School. The field house adjoining the football stadium was destroyed, the baseball stadium and a large metal building adjoining the stadium were essentially destroyed, and several large steel/concrete light standards were snapped at both the baseball and football stadiums. A vehicle was thrown from the parking lot adjoining the baseball stadium, up a small hill and was deposited near the pitching mound in the middle of the baseball field. The main building of the high school also suffered roof damage.||The tornado then moved northeast into the heavily populated areas of Oak Grove and West Hattiesburg, including areas along Lincoln Road Extension, Weathersby Road, Oak Grove Road, and the area just south of Highway 98 along Clark, Lamar and Foxgate Avenues. Numerous homes were destroyed or suffered major damage, and a few homes showed evidence of high end EF-3 damage. Dozens of power poles were snapped and extensive tree damage occurred. Video evidence and ground survey damage appeared to indicate that the tornado was multi-vortex in nature during its Lamar County portion. Just before crossing Interstate 59, it caused significant roof damage to a number of apartment buildings just west of the interstate. In total in Lamar County, emergency management indicated that 51 homes were destroyed and 170 suffered major damage.||The tornado then moved into Forrest County just to the south of Hardy Street damaging numerous homes with the damage in the EF-2 and EF-3 category. It then crossed Hardy Street impacting the southeast corner of the University of Southern Mississippi campus. Numerous buildings were damaged in this area including several campus buildings and a large church. Numerous power poles were blown down in this area and several metal traffic lights were bent or torn off their bases. Damage in this area was also EF-2 and EF-3.||The tornado continued across Highway 49 impacting multiple neighborhoods. Numerous roofs were blown off houses and many trees fell on houses and vehicles. The tornado crossed North Main Street causing significant damage to the Red Cross building, the Girl Scouts building, and bending large metal poles at the Hattiesburg High School athletic fields. The tornado then moved across east 7th Street causing significant damage to several large brick buildings. Damage in the area between north Main Street and east 7th Avenue was in the high end EF-3 range with maximum winds around 160 mph.||The tornado continued into Petal with the most significant damage occurring to an Ace Hardware store on South Main Street. Numerous homes in the vicinity of the hardware store also had roofs torn off and exterior walls collapsed. This damage was also rated high end EF-3 with maximum winds around 160 mph.||The tornado began to weaken as it crossed the Evelyn Gandy Parkway to the northeast of Petal. Damage in this area was mainly EF-1 and EF-2 and consisted of roof damage and snapped trees. The tornado strengthened one last time as it moved through a neighborhood just off Twin Lakes Road. Numerous well built homes experienced EF-2 damage to the roofs in this neighborhood. The tornado weakened as it approached the Perry County line and dissipated a couple of miles into Perry County. Damage at the end of the track was in the EF-0 to EF-1 range.||In Forrest County, emergency management indicated that 133 homes were destroyed and 207 suffered major damage. There were 63 reported injuries.||This is the second violent tornado to impact Lamar and Forrest Counties in recorded history. The other violent tornado was the infamous Purvis tornado on April 24, 1908 that was on the ground for 155 miles and impacted many counties across Mississippi. In total, 143 people were killed by this tornado, including 60 in Lamar County and 4 in Forrest County.

Tornado Report Description: Numerous soft and hardwood trees were snapped and uprooted. Multiple power poles were snapped. Two double wide mobile homes were completely destroyed, a pickup truck was rolled, and a single-wide mobile home suffered major damage. Large oaks were uprooted and a travel trailer was demolished by a falling tree. Maximum wind speeds were estimated at 130 mph in Forrest County. ||This is the continuation of a longer tornado that started in Pearl River County at 3:10pm. This tornado was at it's strongest in Pearl River County with estimated wind speeds of 140 mph, which is EF-3 strength. The tornado finally ended in Greene County at 4:34pm. The total path length was 60.8 miles.

Tornado Report Description: The tornado began off of Longleaf Drive with a couple of softwood trees snapped. One tree fell on a fence and damaged it. The tornado continued north to Eastabuchie Road, where a few more trees were snapped and a few shingles were torn off a roof. It crossed Eastabuchie Road and ended just north of the road snapping a few more trees. Maximum estimated wind speeds were 85 mph.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado initially touched down along Beach Road, where it overturned two trailers, took part of the roof off a home, destroyed a shed and caused some tree damage. From there the tornado weakened and seemed to skip along for several miles as it crossed Boggy Hollow Road and Coaltown Road. The tornado strengthened again as it crossed Purvis to Columbia Road. There the tornado caused damage to the roof and siding of a home and snapped several trees. The tornado them weakened again as it moved through the northwest sections of Purvis with only sporadic tree damage. The tornado strengthened again as it crossed Highway 11 and Sherlock Herrington Road. There numerous trees were snapped, the roof and siding of a home were damaged, a large storage shed was heavily damaged, and 3 mobile home sustained heavy damage. The tornado then reached its peak intensity as it crossed Harold Tucker Road. A strapped down mobile home was blown off its foundation and heavily damaged, two other mobile homes were damaged, and a single family home had part of the roof blown off. Numerous trees were snapped at this location as well. This location had both the maximum winds associated with this tornado of 100 mph and the maximum width of 300 yards.||The tornado then crossed White Chapel Road causing extensive tree damage. It then moved into Forrest County and crossed over Interstate 59 knocking over several trees at a rest stop. The tornado then crossed Browns Bridge Road and Frye Road snapping numerous trees, one of which fell on a house. The tornado lifted shortly after crossing Frye Road.

Tornado Report Description: The public observed a brief tornado touchdown off Highway 49 near Camp Shelby. Maximum winds were estimated at 70 mph.

Tornado Report Description: A brief tornado touched down close to the intersection of Highway 49 and 13. A few trees blocked the south bound lane of Highway 49.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado occurred just south of the first, longer track tornado, and was on the ground for just over a mile. A concentrated path of trees, in a convergent pattern, was blown down. Additionally, half the roof of a small church was peeled off.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado began on the east side of Purvis, here it downed some limbs and small trees. The tornado intensified and widened at it approached and crossed Interstate 59 near Black Creek. Numerous trees and large limbs were snapped along the path as it moved through the area between the interstate and Highway 49. Additionally, a couple homes and outbuildings were damaged by limbs or trees falling on them. The tornado intensified again and narrowed as it approached Highway 49 and the south gate of Camp Shelby. A number of large trees were downed along the highway, and from there to the actual gate of Camp Shelby. One large tree fell on a mobile home on the east side of Highway 49, destroying it. Shingles were pulled off a couple commercial buildings along the highway as well and 2 power poles were snapped. This area was where the tornado reached its maximum intensity. As the tornado moved across Camp Shelby, it remained narrow, but not as intense, with winds likely in the 70 to 80 mph range. The tornado downed numerous large limbs and sporadic trees as it moved across the base. One large tree fell on base quarters home, causing serious damage to it, and another tree fell on a vehicle, destroying it. Some other minor roof damage was noted. The tornado continued causing sporadic tree damage as it crossed Highway 98 near the Perry County line where it dissipated. Maximum winds were around 105 mph. The total path length across Lamar and Forrest Counties was 15 miles.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado touched down at Camp Shelby and snapped or uprooted numerous trees, and downed several power lines along the short path. Twelve buildings, mostly barracks, were damaged. Several buildings had the roofs severely damaged with one roof nearly completely torn off. Several walls of the barrack buildings collapsed where the roof support was lost. A hummer was turned over and windows were blown out of several other vehicles. Maximum wind speed was 110 mph.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado briefly touched down along Interstate 59. Numerous trees were snapped or uprooted along the Interstate and one car was blown off the Interstate causing 1 injury. A roof was blown off a garage and minor roof damage occurred to a home. Additionally, two metal doors were blown off metal buildings.

Tornado Report Description: This tornado briefly touched down in the Country Park Drive area east of the Sunrise Community. One home was significantly damaged as the enclosed carport was destroyed, several windows were blown out and some siding was blown off along with other roof damage. Numerous trees were snapped and uprooted with one power pole snapped.

Tornado Report Description: This was the end of the Lamar County F3 tornado which remained on the ground for 1 mile in extreme northwest Forrest County. Damage in this part of Forrest County was rated F1 and consisted of numerous trees snapped and downed near Lott Town Road. The total path length across Lamar and Forrest Counties was 13 miles.
