Tornado Report Description: Tornado No. 1 associated with the remnants of Hurricane Helene. Confirmed by National Weather Service Storm Survey. Rating: EF1... Estimated Maximum Winds: 86-90 mph... Path Length: 0.60 mile... Path Width: 75 yards. Location 0.1N Blowing Rock NC to 0.7NE Blowing Rock NC. Time frame: 6:38 PM EDT to 6:40 PM EDT. The National Weather Service in cooperation with the Watauga County NC Emergency Manager determined that a tornado had touched down near the intersection of Birch Drive and Hill Street in Blowing Rock NC before traveling northeast for approximately 0.6 mil and then lifting northeast of Chetola Lake Drive. Several softwood and a few hardwood trees were uprooted and snapped along the path of the tornado. In addition... a few free standing tents near Bass Lake and Chetola Lake Drive were also blown down. This tornado occurred with the outer peripheral circulation of Hurricane Helene in what is known as a Predecessor Rain Event or PRE.
