Hail Report Description: A strong thunderstorm moved toward the south through the state and brought numerous reports of small hail, including one-half inch hail at the National Weather Service Office in Warwick. In North Smithfield, small hail collected so deeply in places that it looked like snow. There were scattered reports of large hail. In Johnston, a local television weather spotter observed one inch hail. A short time later, dime-size hail fell in Newport along with 2.13 inches of rain in 30 minutes. Several thousand electric customers lost power for a short time in Warwick and West Greenville. Wind gusts to around 40 mph occurred with this storm.
