Hail Report Description: Tropical moisture streaming north into Riverside county led to a very moist and unstable airmass. As a result, very strong thunderstorms developed across central Riverside county during the early afternoon hours on August 24th. Some of the storms affected the community of Eagle Mountain. A COOP observer located in Eagle Mountain reported that large hail, estimated to be one inch in diameter, fell for 30 minutes. No damage was reported due to the large hail.

Wind Report Description: Thunderstorms with strong, damaging winds moved through the Desert Center area during the morning hours on September 13th. Fire Department personnel reported that a 20 by 40 foot patio cover at the fire station was ripped by strong winds. The winds, estimated to be in excess of 50 knots, also knocked down several palm fronds. The fire station was located just to the northeast of the Desert Center airport.

According to a COOP observer, A 60 foot tall tree with a 3 inch diameter trunk was blown down by winds estimated to be at least 60 mph. The tree fell down and demolished a fence.

Tornado Report Description: Isolated thunderstorms developed across portions of far southeast California, including eastern Riverside county, during the afternoon hours on April 21st. For the most part the storms were not especially strong, however one thunderstorm located about 6 miles north of Desert Center produced a small, rope-like tornado which traveled nearly 10 miles over mostly open country. The tornado was first reported from an aircraft pilot at about 1447PST and local broadcast media later confirmed the tornado with photographs. Additionally, photos and videos from the public showed the tornado, which did not produce any injuries. The tornado did produce modest damage; several windshields were broken from flying rocks and a number of solar panels were destroyed. The tornado was officially confirmed through an NWS remote storm survey and was classified as an EF0 tornado.
